Republicans have been in control of the House, Senate, and White House for 6 years, and have failed to use their majority status to help hard-working Americans. Here is where our country stands today on healthcare, as well as the Spivack Plan of Action:

Current Situation:

  • 45+ million Americans without health insurance; 100,000+ are Delaware residents
  • Members of Congress do not pay for their healthcare and social security
  • Numerous constituents are unable to pay for prescription drugs, or may have to choose between these prescriptions and food, gas, and other necessities
  • Extraordinary amounts of waste and bureaucracy exist in the current system

Spivack Plan of Action:
Universal Healthcare is an ultimate goal, but it is not something that will happen overnight. While we work towards a single payer system, we can take the following steps to help reduce the costs to our citizens, as well as to focus upon the uninsured and underinsured:

  • Sponsor and introduce legislation to require members of Congress to pay for their healthcare, and require them to obtain the same coverage that they legislate for their constituents.
  • Eliminate wasteful administrative costs and billing inefficiencies
  • Create tax exempt healthcare accounts to help individuals pay insurance premiums, deductibles, prescriptions, etc.
  • Free employers from healthcare purchasing, and replace it with contributions to healthcare accounts
  • Those individuals who are unemployed or can not afford healthcare premiums/deductibles would need government assistance to help fund their healthcare accounts.
  • Eliminate pre-authorization/referrals for medical services
  • Eliminate vague healthcare plans with hidden exclusions/coverage by requiring insurance companies to provide an easy-to-read form as to services that they do and do not cover.
  • Establish a “Truth-in-Healthcare Advertisement Board” to eliminate false and misleading healthcare advertisements
  • Establish a “National Malpractice Insurance Program”
