DEMOCRAT DENNIS SPIVACK RUNNING FOR U.S. CONGRESS Three-county tour to include Georgetown, Dover, Wilmington and Middletown
WILMINGTON, Del. – Dennis Spivack, a native Delawarean and Vietnam veteran, has filed as a Democratic candidate to represent the First State in the U.S. Congress.
Spivack, a Wilmington attorney who has been involved in Delaware Democratic politics since 1960, will kick off his campaign in a traditional three-county tour on March 7 (snow date March 9).
Spivack said he decided to run for Congress primarily because of his desire to improve access to health care, influence U.S. policy related to ending the war in Iraq and bringing our troops safely home, and stop the out-of-control growth of America's federal deficit.
“Delawareans deserve to be represented in Congress by a real Democrat, not a Republican who votes with Tom Delay and the rest of the Bush Administration’s minions,” Spivack said. “I share the Democratic values that Delawareans stand for, and I have the vision, the skills and the passion to take those values to the U.S. House of Representatives.”
Spivack, a 58-year-old attorney with Morris, James, Hitchens & Williams, expects to receive the endorsement of the Democratic Party within the next few weeks.
Spivack filed two forms with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday, Feb. 2. He filed his Statement of Candidacy, which acknowledges that he has met the FEC’s definition of “candidate” for purposes of campaign finance law. He also filed a Statement of Organization, which organizes and designates “Spivack for Congress” as the principal campaign committee for the campaign.
By filing these documents, Spivack is required to file periodic disclosure reports with the FEC that detail the financing of his campaign.
Spivack and his wife Marcia live in North Wilmington. They have two grown daughters, Lauren and Emily.
